About Us

Why the name Nadetwa Clothing NZ Limited?

Nadetwa is a combination of Natasja, Desiree and Twan; letters from each of the three children of founders Johanna and Kees van Beers.

The name was originally invented when the family was on holiday in the South of France in the 70s.   The three children discovered an island (i.e. sandbank) and named it Nadetwa.

How have we grown over the years?

The business was first started in 1984 when Johanna started working from home as an outworker.   As the amount of work increased additional staff was taken on to also some within the van Beers home.

In 1990 Nadetwa Clothing leased their first premises in Wycola Avenue, Hornby, Christchurch, New Zealand.   This is when the business quickly grew until it employed 6 staff.

Nadetwa outgrew the Wycola premises in 1994, during this time Kees and Johanna had built a new home, complete with large garage.   The decision was made to move the factory into the garage.   Over the years the work area at home grew to include additional rooms.   The apparel manufacturing had increased to employ 12 staff including Kees and Natasja.

Finally in 1999 a lease was signed for 1c Michelle Road, Sockburn, Christchurch.   This allowed Nadetwa to grow further to its current 18 employees.

In January 2006 the business was sold to Twan and Shona van Beers.  Shona learnt dressmaking from her mother and has been designing her own clothing since her teens.   Twan is the son of Kees and Johanna, and a computer geek!!!  Shona and Twan currently reside mainly in the UK.   Natasja now manages the day to day operations, aided by Johanna and Kees as and when required.
